"Harnessing the rational to illuminate the transcendental"

Steve Young aka Hedflux is synthesising a gleaming new horizon in electronic dance music. Integrating chunky tech-funk with refined psychedelia, the result is a genetic hybrid characterized by laser-precision engineering, liquid-tight grooves and a visceral, hypnotic energy.

The seminal 2010 track "Mindcell" exemplifies the Hedflux sound. Spending 10 weeks at the top of the Beatport breaks chart, and becoming the 3rd top selling breaks track of the year, Mindcell went on to win the coveted “Best Track” award at the 2011 Breakspoll International Breakbeat Awards. Steve also received nominations for “Best New Producer” and “Best New DJ”, with Broken Robot Records nominated for “Best Label” and “Best New Label”.

Steve started deejaying in 1992, and learned music production as a hobby while pursuing an academic interest in physics and mathematics. Graduating with a PhD in quantum physics in 2004, Steve left academia and spent five years in industry. During this time he focused on music production with a much greater sense of passion and urgency, until finally leaving the corporate world in 2010 to pursue his creative ambitions full-time.

Since then, Steve psychedelic tech-funk has sparked a flame in a new generation of sublimely talented producers around the world who are stepping up to elevate the sound to a fresh new level.

Hedflux has produced a string of ground-breaking original tracks on Broken Robot records, as well as remixes for Lot49, U&A, Liquid, Aux Technology, Surfer Rosa and more. With regular performances in the UK, Europe and Asia, Hedflux has also completed successful tours of Australia, New Zealand and the US west coast, playing at some of the most legendary underground clubs in LA, San Diego & San Francisco, as well as the massive LovEvolution festival in Oakland, California. Hedflux is returning to Australia in 2012 for his second tour, kicking off with the epic Rainbow Serpent festival in Melbourne on January 27th.
